Treasure Master Music (NES) – World 1 [The Islands]

Track 2 / 7 (Complete Soundtrack)

Platform: Nintendo Entertainment System
Developer: Software Creations
Publisher: American Softworks
Composer: Tim Follin
Year: 1991 (US)

1 – Title Theme
2 – World 1 (The Islands)
3 – World 2 (The Moon)
4 – Worlds 3 + 5 (Microchip)
5 – World 4
6 – World 6 (Prize World)
7 – World Complete

This quirky selection may be deceivingly upbeat at first if you’re unfamiliar with it. The funky nature of the Title Theme and World 1 music is undeniably positive, but if I were to make a list of the most over-the-top, in your face, and intricately programed NES music, Treasure Master would be sure to place quite high on it.

Tim Follin masterfully milks the NES sound with deep percussive effects using the triangle wave, and crams in all sorts of intense effects and arpeggios with impressive compositional skill. There’s a lot to absorb here.

  1. I like :12 to :16. The little noises are great. I hope another composer like Tim Follin comes around and makes melodic music that isn't repetitive. And it loops right when you least expect it.

  2. I remember playing the shit outta this game it was so hard. When it was released they had a big contest with it you could go to the secret level if your barcode password unlocked it.
